Visit on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday mornings are also worthwhile, but it’s best to attend in the afternoon rather than the morning. Rome’s other museums are all closed on Monday, making it a particularly awful day to visit; instead, spend the day strolling among the city’s parks, squares, and streets.
Rome can grow congested, and places like the Vatican museums can become overcrowded soon. Many tourists have lost their senses while exploring the roughly 7km (4.5 miles) of passages. By the time they get to the Sistine Chapel, they are staring up at Michelangelo’s magnificent ceiling in absolute awe.
Weekends in Rome are always busier than weekdays due to the addition of tourists and Romans taking advantage of the city’s attractions on their days off.
